Seven taxi companies in Nassau County and eastern Queens have resumed their annual gift of free rides home from bars and restaurants for New Years revelers who’ve had too much to drink and can’t drive.

The initiative is aimed at preventing drunken-driving crashes and tragedies that often accompany New Years Eve. The companies will also provide free rides for participants back to the bar to pick up their car the next day through Jan. 1.

“If we can avoid one accident or someone being injured, it is well worth it,” Marianna Blessinger, president of Ollie’s Taxi and Airport Service, one of the taxi companies taking part.

The other taxi companies offering free rides from the bar through New Year’s Day are All Island Transportation, East Rockaway Transportation, Taxi Latino, Luxury Transportation, Glen Belle Car Service and Deluxe Transportation.
