It is important that we recognize breast cancer awareness year-round and especially in October as it's nationally recognized, but did you know it's also National Anti-Bullying Month? I didn't either until this brave woman took a stand against bullying- head on. Jennifer Livingston is a news reporter in Wisconsin who addressed an email she received. The content suggested that her weight set a bad example for the community, in particular, young girls. They then went on to say that it was her responsibility as a local public personality to present a healthy lifestyle. Take a look at how she handled what may have been meant to humiliate her and the message she was able to send out in regards to it.

Take the pledge!
Often when we see or hear something that compels us we wonder "what can we do?" That was the first thing that came to mind after seeing and hearing about an unthinkable proposition that has surfaced on social media sites. There is a call to kill pit bulls on Halloween. While I hope this is a "trick," a statement THIS disturbing cannot be ignored in my opinion.
I'm asking you take the pledge with me to "Protect Our Pets" on October 31st. Taking the pledge means you'll be the eyes and ears in your neighborhood and deter anything bad from happening to pit bulls, or any dog, cat or pet on Halloween.
If you DO suspect something, please use the following information to make a report:
-Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NCSPCA): (516) THE-SPCA (843-7722)

Titanic was an epic film. I think I saw it twice in theaters and the part that got me each time was for the wrong reason. While everyone else around me was shedding a tear I was perplexed over one thing: Why didn't Rose let Jack on the plank with her? HE COULD HAVE LIVED! I thought she was selfish, but it turns out if she let Jack on with her (which, technically there WAS plenty of room for): they BOTH would have sunk.
Someone is stepping in to help director James Cameron defend the ending to his movie once and for all! The guys from the show "Mythbusters" are recreating the dramatic scene to prove that a little thing called "buoyancy" would have failed, dumping both characters in to the water to die of hypothermia.
Now THAT would have made me cry...

No word on if patent leather high-heels come with the $70.00 per lesson class, but that IS how much parents are shelling over at dance studios in Canada. The newest activity for children to enjoy there: pole dancing. Owners of the studios say parents are demanding it, so they've created the "fitness" course for kids as young as 5-years old.
I DO understand that there are cardiovascular and strength benefits... FOR ADULTS! It can even boost confidence for grown woman, but how about sending your kids out to play to get some exercise? Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I think this is too much for a little girl to be doing. Am I being a prude?

One of the joys of the holidays for me is relishing in the hilarity that is "A Christmas Story." There are so many memorable moments and I even own a life-size replica of the leg lamp with the "FRAGILE" box it came in and a Red Ryder BB gun. When it airs for 24-hours straight leading up to Christmas, it's locked on my television and I can't get enough.
I have some bad news. The classic has a sequel and I'm not sure how I feel about that. It claims to be the OFFICIAL sequel and it takes place when the main character, Ralphie, is 16. Instead of a gun, he obsesses over a car and instead of Aunt Clara sending a pink bunny suit, she sends something else.
'A Christmas Story 2: The Official Sequel" goes straight to DVD October 30th. Please note: I do NOT want this under ...

As in Ombre- the technique for transitioning hair color! As I get easily bored, I saw this picture on my hair salon's facebook page and said OMG! I immediately googled this trend to see what celebrities are rocking it for fall: Drew Barrymore, Miley Cyrus and Kristen Wiig just to name a few... And while I LOVE the purple hues, it's got me thinking that as I get a little older- can I still pull that off? I asked for my friends and husband's valuable opinions and got mixed feedback. Some said "go for it!" Other's said "Stop changing your hair color and get a hobby." I decided to meet somewhere in the middle and maybe go for this "ombre" technique, but with "normal colors." I'm headed to the salon tomorrow to see if I can rock the look, Leeana style. Wish me luck! Would you do something like this ...

For some reason I just can't shake the tragedy in Aurora, CO. I think I put myself in the seats alongside those who went to enjoy a movie, wanted to be part of the hype and amongst the first to say they saw it. A Dark Knight turned in to a blood bath when James Holmes, the suspect in the shootings, burst in to a midnight screening of the film. He clearly carefully calculated his attack, launching tear gas in to the audience before opening fire.
I find myself listening to the accounts by survivors and putting myself in that theater, wondering what it felt like, the horror... the confusion... the hysteria. I'm so saddened by the disregard for human life and what could have made a man do something like this. It also makes me question my safety and the safety of all of us in public places.
The ...

Before you call an exterminator or put down traps, consider this: rats are good for something! If you've been considering getting a pet this summer, you may want to look in to the often pesky little rodent. Why? A new study shows a link between having one and a significant increase in performance on school assignments for kids! So, how significant is "significant?" Owners of pet rats saw a 92% rate of improvement!
If you want to spike your kids creativity and just can't tolerate going the rat route, consider a soft little chinchilla. Still not feeling it? You can opt for the traditional dog or cat, which showed an 83% improvement. I guess it's really up to you how well you want your child do in school... ;)
