New Movies This Week

#1.) Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" (PG)
Alice is played by a 20-year-old Australian woman named Mia Wasikowska, who you might know as the suicidal gymnast Sophie from HBO's "In Treatment".   The movie plays like a sequel, with Alice returning to Wonderland as an adult to help all of her old friends overthrow the Red Queen's army and defeat the queen's dragon.  Johnny Depp is the heroic Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway is the rightful ruler, the White Queen, and Helena Bonham Carter is the emotionally unstable Red Queen.  This 3-D version of "Alice" is the SEVENTH film that Tim Burton has worked on with Johnny Depp . . . and his SIXTH with his longtime girlfriend, Helena Bonham Carter.  The rest of the cast includes "Underworld's" Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit, Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock dragon, and "Back to the Future's" Crispin Glover as a seven-foot tall man in charge of the Red Queen's army.  Official Site: http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/aliceinwonderland/

#2.) "Brooklyn's Finest" (R)
Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, and Ethan Hawke are three cops involved in a massive drug operation that pits them against each other as they try to take down the city's most notorious drug dealer, who's played by Wesley Snipes.  Don Cheadle plays an undercover cop who's more loyal to Snipes than to his badge. Richard Gere is a burned out patrolman on the verge of retiring. And Ethan Hawke is a narcotics cop who crosses the line by helping himself to a little drug money.  It's directed by Antoine Fuqua, who also directed Ethan Hawke in "Training Day". His other films include Mark Wahlberg's sniper movie "Shooter", Bruce Willis' special-ops flick "Tears of the Sun", and the Keira Knightley version of "King Arthur".  Official Site: http://www.BrooklynsFinestthemovie.com/
