-Keep your pet in an air-conditioned room, or in the shade if you go outdoors
-Don’t exercise your pet after a meal, and pick the coolest part of the day to walk or exercise
-Never leave your pet alone in a vehicle, and if your pet travels with you always bring along some water
-Be particularly sensitive to old or over weight animals in hot weather
-Avoid walking pets in areas that have been sprayed with insecticides or chemicals (lawns and gardens are often sprayed in summer)
-Be alert to coolant leaking from your car’s air-conditioner, pets are attracted to the sweet taste of coolant and ingesting the liquid is extremely dangerous
-Groom your pet regularly, a clean coat prevents summer skin problems, Veterinarians suggest hair length be kept at no more than one inch long to prevent over-heating
