One person was airlifted to a hospital after two boats collided in the Atlantic Ocean, about 17 miles south of Fire Island Inlet early Wednesday. The Coast Guard says the crash happened around 6 a.m.,

Each boat was carrying two people. One person was thrown into the water but quickly pulled out and flown to a hospital by NYPD helicopter.

Crews towed both vessels back to shore. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
