Ayisha and Luke
At the time they met, they weren’t actively looking to be in a relationship. They met on the set of Law and Order where Luke asked for her number. She realized that he was a very kind, nice and attractive guy, but was looking for someone who loved God, and wasn’t sure if he did too. After a month of texting they went on 3 dates, but she was still unsure of his relationship with God. After coming to a showcase she was in, she finally received the clarity she needed. When the show ended, they went to get gelato and sat in Times Square. During that time, she asked him to ask me any question he wanted; his response was ‘how serious are you about God because I am very serious.’ She was so happy to hear him say that because she wanted someone who had a relationship with God, and she refused to compromise. He always jokes and says ‘our God is a God of Law and Order!’ Ten months later, they know they want to get married within a year. May would make a year of being together! They are praying for a miracle ceremony because there have been a few financial set backs. They hope their story can be a testimony of God’s unfailing love.
Adeline and Angel
Falling in love was the last thing on her mind during the pandemic. Working in oncology already meant balancing hope and heartbreak, but COVID made everything heavier. PPE left permanent marks on my face, shifts blurred together, and exhaustion settled deep in her bones. But somehow, Angel always made it a little easier.
He had a way of keeping things light, even when the world felt unbearably heavy. He’d leave an extra cup of coffee at my work station, encouraging notes & clean masks at my locker, and somehow always manage to find the last working pen. We joked that if we ever got to see each other’s full faces again, we might not recognize each other.
One day, after a brutal shift, she tried to yank off my isolation gown and it got stuck. Angel, ever the helpful one, tugged it loose—except he pulled too hard, sending her straight into the supply cart. A box of gloves went flying, hand sanitizer spilled everywhere, and she ended up gripping his arm for balance as they both stood there, wide-eyed and exhausted. Then they just started laughing, the kind of tired, uncontrollable laughter that made their stomachs hurt.
After that, something shifted. Coffee showed up at her locker more often. His hand brushed hers more than necessary. They lingered in the parking lot after shifts, too drained to move but unwilling to say goodbye just yet.
Dating during a pandemic wasn’t romantic—it was masked-up walks, muffled conversations, and texting across breakroom walls. But somehow, it worked. Love for them wasn’t grand gestures or perfect moments. Sometimes, it’s just a shared joke after a brutal shift, a stolen cup of coffee, and someone to make the hard days bearable; and now, they’re looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together 24/7 (literally).
Sara and Matthew
They met on Bumble in 2020, three weeks after her mother passed away (she’s convinced she sent him to her). One of the things she always wanted for her was to get married! She always wanted to see her in a wedding dress and dance with her father. She promised her before she passed that She will get married. They got engaged in May of 2023, and got legally married in May of 2024 because she needed to go on his insurance for health reasons. But they weren’t able to have an actual party with close friends and family due to financial reasons. She could never imagine not fulfilling the Promise she made to her mom, and this would be an amazing way for her to keep her promise. She is with the love of her life, and would love to celebrate their love with the closest people to them.
Anthony and Joanne
They first met when they were only 12 years old. They went to the Junior High School dance together. They are now 50-51 years old. Little did he know then, that she would become his soulmate all these years later. They dated off and on when they were 15-16 years old. They were very much in love, as in love as you can be at 15-16 years old. That summer, Joanne went to Greece with her parents and family. They lost touch with each other. Of course there was no internet then and long distance phone calls were very very expensive back then. They had moved on with our lives and grew up. They married other people. Unfortunately, as it turns out, both were involved in bad marriages that ended in divorce. About 7 years ago, they had met up through a mutual friend who they both knew from 7th grade in 1987, but didn’t know that this friend knew us both. Their meeting was accidental and by complete surprise. When he had seen her, his knees buckled and his heart raced. She was even more beautiful than he had remembered. It was like a scene in a well written movie or novel. Until this happened, that’s the only place he thought those feelings could occur. They began talking again and all the feelings came rushing back. They’ve been together now since 2018 and got engaged in July 2023. Its been amazing. Their bad marriages had scarred both of them, but they managed to get through it together. Their love now is unlike anything they’ve ever known. They feel they have come full circle, being each other’s very first boyfriend/girlfriend at only 12 years old, and now being 50 and 51 respectfully, being each other’s last. He cannot imagine his life without her. They don’t have a lot of money, but are ‘doing alright.’ They have been planning a wedding since their engagement in 2023. Things are so expensive nowadays. He would give anything to surprise her with this amazing offer that KJOY has put forward. Whether or not we win, they want to thank you for taking the time to read their story.
Jennifer and Eric
Last Christmas, Eric proposed in the very classroom where they first met in 2013. She fell for him after hearing his essay in English 101—his words moved her, and so did he. Since then, they’ve built a life of love and growth, weathering every storm together. As a medical assistant during the pandemic, she was scared, but his quiet strength held her steady. Their story began with words, and now it’s leading them to “I do.”
Jenna and Justen
They met 6 years ago, and got engaged on 12/17/23. She ended up having a bad car accident and was diagnosed with multiple autoimmune conditions, lupus being the main one. A few short months later, she became disabled, and shortly after that, his parents passed away — both of them. Then we lost our dog suddenly from a previous undetected seizure condition.
They then lost their apartment. A month later she was being worked up for possible breast cancer; it was thankfully negative – they just need to watch every 6 months. However, just a few short months later in January, he was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer. We’ve had to go through the fertility processes, with tons of doctors, and found out on February 14, 2025 we were pregnant with our miracle baby! However, nine weeks later I lost the baby and had to have a surgical procedure. He is starting chemo soon. He’ll have to do two strong rounds, and then another PET scan.
They had to move back in with family to help with all the stress that’s been going on. They’ve been wanting to get married, and have tried to plan several times, but every time something else terrible happens. They love each other more than she can explain. But with all the money from doctor bills and being on disability with no income has made it even harder. They would love to get married and have one good thing happen to us!
