Gun Violence on the Rise in Suffolk County, New State Data Shows

Suffolk County is experiencing an increase in gun violence this year compared to 2024, according to newly released statistics from New York State.

So far in 2025, there have been eight deadly shootings in Suffolk, up from just one during the same period last year. The data also shows 20 people have been injured in shootings, compared to 14 a year ago.

Suffolk police acknowledged the uptick but stressed that last year marked what they called a historic low in shootings. They added that while the numbers are up in 2025, overall shootings in the county are still down 55 percent compared to four years ago.

In neighboring Nassau County, the state report points to the opposite trend. Shootings there are down so far this year compared to the same time in 2024.
