Glen Cove High School Gym Closed After Mercury Found in Flooring

Tests at Glen Cove High School found mercury vapor in the auxiliary gym nearly four times above New York’s safety limit. The likely source is old polyurethane flooring installed decades ago. The district has closed the gym, relocated summer programs, and is planning to remove and replace the flooring. In the meantime, stronger ventilation and barriers are being added to reduce exposure.
