Broadway dancers have been performing in Times Square! The last few weeks, more and more dancers have been doing choreographed dances in the heart of the square and have dubbed it the Times Square Project.

For 8 weeks I have nearly convinced myself not to do this. . . But then I witness friends reunite as they embrace in tears. I witness people smiling, laughing and cheering each other on. I witness people taking up space, flying through the air, exhausting each cell in their body and the relief and exhilaration that comes with that. I watch the tension, sadness and heaviness lift, even if it’s just for a moment. I see a community that’s been torn apart, unite and raise each other up. And for those 1.5 hours, there is healing, connection, HOPE and LOVE. . . TSQ Project (week 8) Team, thank you for sharing your beautiful souls yesterday. What a magical moment in time. . . . What once felt like the center of the world, vibrating with electricity, dreams and limitless imagination, stood empty, dark and lifeless. . . April 9th was my first shift at Open Jar Studios as part of the Broadway Relief Project, making PPE for the front lines. It was also the first day I walked through Times Square since COVID19. It felt like the apocalypse hit. . . May 19th I dug up the courage to do something, anything to try and help breath energy and life back into the city. My dear friend @itsrandycastillo asked if I wanted to meet him in Times Square for a walk. “You don’t feel like dancing, do you??” I asked hesitantly. We danced together, with nothing but gray air, dull lights and not another human in sight. . . The next few weeks brought 3, 5, 11, then 12. The ‘TSQ Project’ (Time Square Project) was born. My hope was that the movement growing each week would correlate to the world healing, just a little bit, slowly coming back to life. . . Week 9 brought together 23 humans, and despite the many reasons to not do this, the HOPE, joy, moments of relief, connection, and life this project has brought has kept us coming back. . .
