63 Suffolk County Beaches closed

East Farmingdale, NY- Health Officials in Suffolk County have closed 63 beaches because of elevated levels of bacteria found in the water. The Suffolk County Department of Health announced the beach closures on Tuesday morning, after powerful storms soaked the region on Monday. Officials say the beach closures are necessary because of elevated bacteria levels in the water, caused by storm-water run off. Health Department recommends that bathing and other water contact be suspended for at least two tide cycles or at least 24 hours. The beach advisories should be lifted on Wednesday June 29th at 7am, unless sampling indicates a need for the beaches to remain closed.
