The Town of Islip shutdown all its computers due to what’s being called “unusual activity.”
Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter says an issue was first detected on the day after Thanksgiving at around 5:50 a.m.
Carpenter said “They noticed unusual activity so I don’t know if I would term it a hack or a breach, but it didn’t seem right,”
Employees were asked not to use their town computers Monday, and people who live in Islip were directed to the town’s website or to call the main number while they investigated is on going
The planned shutdown affected the town’s 1,000 computers.
