Las Vegas Sands plans to open casino at Coliseum

People play video slots at the public opening of Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, N.Y., Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018. Resorts World Catskills is opening Thursday in the heart of the old "Borscht Belt." It will feature more than 150 table games and 2,150 slot machines about 80 miles northwest of New York City. Las Vegas Sands has entered into agreements to purchase the long-term lease of the site currently home to the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The company is planning to develop a multibillion-dollar flagship hospitality, entertainment and casino project at the Coliseum.

The transactions, which still require certain approvals, would grant the company control of up to 80 acres in Nassau County.
