Police involved in a shooting in North Amityville

A Suffolk Police officer was involved in a shooting Wednesday afternoon in North Amityville.

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison says two officers observed an individual who was wanted for a robbery, the suspect, ran and the two officers pursued him. The suspect then pulled out a firearm and fired at least one round at the officers, one of the officers then returned fire, hitting him in the torso before arresting him.

The suspect was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.
