(BALDWIN, N.Y.) – The following is a statement from Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport)
“This morning, Department of Public Works (DPW) officials informed me that the damaged sewer line on Grand Avenue at Lorenz Avenue was leaking sewage into the Brookside Preserve creek and the backyards of several homeowners,” Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) said.
“I have been in frequent contact with County Executive Blakeman and DPW Commissioner Kenneth Arnold since the issues with the sewer line were first discovered on June 27, and I share residents’ concerns about the environmental damage that is potentially being caused,” Legislator Mulé added. “Earlier today, County Executive Blakeman notified me that the Department for Environmental Conservation (DEC) has been informed of the breach. This incident further demonstrates the need to invest in and repair our aging infrastructure, and I will be reaching out to our federal representatives to request an expedited disbursement of the monies promised to us under the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.”
“Today’s emergency work will require a water shutoff until 9 p.m. for approximately 40 homes. County Executive Blakeman advised me that DPW staff will be delivering letters regarding the project and supplies of bottled water to impacted homeowners. My office will continue to provide regular updates to the community until these repairs are complete and our environmental and infrastructure concerns are fully addressed,” Legislator Mulé concluded.
