Lido Beach, NY: Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman will announce a new rip current safety initiative at Nassau Beaches and sign a resolution designating July as “Rip Current Awareness Month”. He will be joined by a parent who tragically lost her young daughter in a rip current.
On average, 71 people die in rip current drownings each year, according to the National Weather Service.
He will also lay out additional steps taken by parks and police officials to protect residents against riptides and other dangers associated with ocean swimming.
