Department of City Planning recommends extending Madison Square Garden permit

Midtown Manhattan , NYC

The New York City Department of City Planning has recommended extending Madison Square Garden’s special permit to operate the arena above Penn Station for another 10 years, on the condition the Garden commits to major public realm improvements.

The proposal will come to a vote by the City Planning Commission this week on whether to send it to the City Council. MSG was hoping for a permanent extension. Some groups want to move the Garden to another location as part of the redevelopment of Penn Station.
