Tuesday’s overnight storm led to flooding at a LIPA substation at Ocean Beach on Fire Island Wednesday morning, causing PSEG to turn off power to the station just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, impacting about 1,700 customers.

PSEG inspected and repaired the substation and power was restored to customers by 2:30 p.m.

Fire Island residents said the storm also washed out roads and flooded homes.

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine is asking Gov. Hochul to declare a state of emergency following the storm, which left multiple communities under water.

Romaine says the action would qualify the county for FEMA aid, helping rebuild beaches and dunes damaged by the storm.
