Today is the special election to fill the open seat in New York’s 3rd Congressional District. Polls are open now until 9pm.
Republican Mazi Pilip and Democrat Tom Suozzi are competing to fill the seat, which represents parts of Nassau county and Queens. It became vacant after George Santos was expelled from the House late last year after getting charged with multiple counts of fraud and donor theft.
Early voting ended Sunday with about 16% of eligible voters having already cast their ballot.
According to a poll released by Newsday and Siena College the election is too close to call.
Suozzi leads Pilip 48% to 44%. The gap is within the poll’s 4.2 percentage point margin of error.
