The Long Island Rail Road is considering increasing service on the Port Washington branch after the Town of North Hempstead agreed to let the agency explore a plan to expand the rail yard where trains are stored.
The Port Washington Branch had the third highest ridership of any LIRR branch in 2023, with 9.9 million customers.
Officials say it would will be a “few years” before the expansion would be finished if approved.
