Officials say Monday’s storm that collapsed Harbor Road in Stony Brook caused damage that could take years to repair. When Harbor Road at Main Street was destroyed, the dam at neighboring Mill Pond sent waters into the street, adding in its destruction.

Charles Lohmann, chief of police for Head of the Harbor, said that the concern now is for the seven homes, located on a side street that have been cut off.

The extent of the damage has prompted county officials to appeal for state and federal aid.
