I know! You hear it all the time….”Change your thoughts to something positive!” Well..that will make a difference, and will cause a shift in your energy to attract better circumstances, but here’s the question: HOW do you do that?!?!? It’s really freaking HARD sometimes! We get into this “comfort zone” because we’ve been thinking about those negative thoughts for so long and they are just there for us to access because we got so good at thinking them! We replay them over and over again… so HOW do we change the record? Yes, going inside and meditating, trying to clear your mind…doing that helps a LOT..I’ve done it, still do it and it really does help to calm your mind…but I realize that there are a lot of hours in the day, so we need some other ways to redirect our thoughts in addition to meditation. There are lots of things we cannot control about our environment but there are some things that we can control. And here are some of the ideas I’d like to personally share with you that have worked for me, and still do:
1.Quote boards– We’ve heard of vision boards (posting what we want to bring into our life visually through pictures)…but I started a “quote board” to help me refocus my thoughts. I pulled them from Facebook, from books, from TV, from googling topics, anywhere! I printed them out and put them on this large board. And it really helped! They were the words I know I needed to hear…the thoughts I needed to get into my head and I read them every time my mind went south for an empowering kick in the butt!
2. Music and lyrics– I created files on my song list with titles such as “My New Life!” and “OUTSTANDING!” Then in each file I added songs with lyrics that I know were what I needed to hear…to remind me of where I want my thoughts to go. Music is an AWESOME state changer!
3. Books– I would go down to the book store, look at titles of books that I felt would help to redirect my thoughts, get a cup of green tea or if I wanted to treat myself- a decaf cappuccino (with lots of cinnamon!), take the stack of books I found, sit and just read through them like a sponge. Then I bought the one that had ideas and words that I connected to the most and helped me to refocus my thoughts. I put it on my night table and referred to it whenever my mind would drift to the negative so that I would get back on track!
3. Gratitude- You can’t have a negative thought and a grateful thought at the same time. Try it….see you can’t! No matter what’s going on you can always find something to be grateful for, even if it’s the fact that you are breathing and able to read this right now. Believe me, someone out there may wish they had your life. There is always someone out there going through an even harder time.
These are just some of the main tips I wanted to share with you to answer the question “Yeah but HOW do you change your thoughts?” …and I still do ALL of them till this day!
